How To Stay Stylish With Your Face Mask

If there’s one thing that the COVID-19 has taught us, it would be “PUT YOUR MASK ON!”  All kidding aside, it taught us to wear our mask for protection not just for the pandemic, but also for other viruses and pollution. And as for the fashion world, it gave us a new fashion statement –  an accessory which we can use to match our OOTD’s!

Here are some tips on how you can still be stylish even with your masks on!

Coordinate with your outfit.

You don’t need to be an expert in colour theory to figure out how to coordinate with your outfit. Pair a neutral-coloured outfit with a pop of colour in your mask, or vice versa. Neutral colours like black, white, and grey will look good with almost anything.

If you tend to wear more clothes with patterns, your face mask should be in solid complementary colours for a cohesive style. If you tend to wear more solid colour clothes, spice up your look with a fun patterned mask.

Pick styles that will suit your lifestyle.

Where will you be wearing your mask? To the gym? To work? To the supermarket? Some masks are designed specifically for an activity with a secure fit and moisture-wicking fabric, while others are designed to be more comfortable for a long term and low impact wear.

If you wear your mask for a long time like at work, look for a mask with ties instead of elastic loops. Elastic bands can provide a more secure fit for high-impact exercise, but they can also cause pain to your ears if worn for a long time. Tied masks are also an option for those who are allergic to latex.

Check the right fabric.

Fabric is everything when it comes to face masks. It will affect comfort. Generally, thicker and stiffer fabrics like cotton have more form to them and will look more presentable than those made with silk and other soft materials.

Silk and satin are unlikely to hole up well against sweat and oil produced by our skin. Remember that there’s also moisture in your breath, which will show up very clearly on these types of fabrics

Hair & Eye Makeup

Because we always have to put on our masks, you might want to rethink the way you wear your hair and eye makeup because it’ll be the beauty focus. Considering that our eyes are the only part of the face that will be seen when wearing a face mask, you have to make them stand out from the crowd, including bold eyeliner and smokey eye shadow. Remember to use long-wearing and transfer-proof mascaras to prevent smudging your look and staining your covering.

Brow Power! If you don’t have enough time for some eye makeup, keeping your brows on point is essential and, given that they are the only form of any facial expression visible when wearing a face mask, you’re going to want to make sure they’re looking their best.

To add more definition, lash out! False eyelashes can enhance your appearance plus they are very versatile and very convenient. You can quickly wear them for any outfit and you can also use them for up to four weeks! This is actually the best choice for you if you don’t want to spend more on makeup.

As for the hair, you don’t have to sacrifice your usual hairstyle. You can still wear your half-up half-down ponytail, messy bun, and super high ponytail when wearing your masks.

The Bottomline

As we adapt to the new normal, we must be careful because it’s not always the style we are looking for; it’s also the purpose. Wear a mask that will surely protect you from the virus and pollution.  Take care & keep safe! Love, Vera May.
