Happy mother’s day Vera May Lovers!

May is the month to celebrate our Mothers, Vera May Lovers!
Every second Sunday of May, many families have their own traditions of visiting or calling their mothers, giving gifts, or going out for lunch together. It is a good annual reminder to say thanks to our mothers, and the other special carers who help us to be our best day by day.

When did the celebration start in Australia?

First of all, we would love to tell you a little story of the first Australian Mother’s Day celebration.
Australia first officially celebrated Mother’s Day in 1924.

Janet Heyden, a woman who was living in Sydney, began the tradition because she wanted to help the lonely, elderly mothers at a hospital she visited. All of those women had lost their husbands and sons in World War I, or had never been wives or mothers because of the war. Because of that, she asked schools and businesses to donate gifts.

Now that you know where the celebration comes from, we would like to give you some ideas of things to do.

Things to do on Mother’s Day in Australia:

Our Vera May office team is 80% hardworking & incredible women. This is why we like to show the importance of this day, and we would love to give you some ideas of things to do on Mother’s Day.

Over the years, that special day has grown popular for Australians, and we know that sometimes it is difficult to find ideas for your Mother’s Day, but Australia is a beautiful place with a lot of scenic landscapes, amazing beaches and mountains. Our recommendation is don’t stay home! Take mum out, and let her spend an amazing day with you!

Here you have a summary of our best ideas for the following Mother’s Day with your family, or just with her, you choose!

  • Take mum to a beach, park, or mountain picnic.
  • Visit an art gallery or museum that you or your mum are interested in.
  • Go to the cinema and watch a new film (outdoor cinemas are so much fun!)
  • Organise a family lunch or dinner with home-cooked meals.
  • Bring your mum to an amazing rooftop bar or restaurant and have a drink with views.
  • Have a relaxing family-day spa!

If your idea is giving her a present why don’t you give her a Vera May handbag?  She would love it! To sum up, our team agrees that whatever you choose to do with your Mum on this special day, she’s sure to appreciate the effort you’ve made.
